Our primary AA degree provides professional theatrical training to prepare students to enter the entertainment field or transfer to a four year institution. It is a rigorous two years program where students learn valuable skills in the major areas of Theater, with emphases in either Act­ing, Technical Theater, Costuming, or Dance. The program is designed for the student who recognizes the social and occupational value of this training.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • -Achieve competency in a theater work environment, either in production or performance.
  • -Synthesize the historical and philosophical context of theater arts to broaden individual perspective

Students completing the Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts for Transfer Degree will have satisfied the lower division major preparation for bachelor’s degrees in similar majors as determined by California State University (CSU) cam­puses and are guaranteed admission with junior status to the California State University system, although not to a particular campus or major. Students can use the website ADT Search by CSU Campus to find CSU campuses that accept ADT degrees as being similar to their bachelor’s degree majors: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/transfer/ Pages/associate-degree-for-transfer-major-and-cam­pus-search.aspx.

To earn an Associate Degree for Transfer, students must complete 60 semester units (90 quarter units) of course­work that is transferable to the California State Univer­sity with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher, and also complete each of the following requirements:

  • -Major/Area of Emphasis: A minimum of 18 semes­ter units (27 quarter units) of coursework, with a C or higher earned in each course or P if taken on a Pass/ No Pass basis, as required by the Los Angeles Com­munity College District (LACCD) (Title 5 §55062).

  • -General Education: Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) course requirements, with a C or higher earned for each course or P if taken on a Pass/No Pass basis (34 semester/45 quarter units).

  • -Residency: A minimum of 12 semester units must be completed within the LACCD (Title 5 §55062).
