SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY

It is quite wonderful to find a truly American collection of poems. Spoon River Anthology in many ways mirrors the American experience from the beginning of the Republic through to 1915. Much has changed in the American landscape, but much remains unchanged in the breadth of human experience. Edgar Lee Masters’ poems illustrate both ideas equally. Published only three years before the 1918 pandemic, and the end of the first world war, it was an obvious choice for production, lending itself aptly to the virtual theater experience, as well as to today’s pandemic and social upheavals. We hope you enjoy the production even as it reminds us of our frailties, losses, and transgressions, but ultimately, of our indefatigable nature.
